A woman in a wheelchair smiles at the camera inside a polling place. She is wearing a yellow top and sitting near a “Vote Here” sign decorated with an American flag. Other voters are blurred in the background as they cast their ballots.

A Prayer for Election Day

Scripture Reading: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” — Amos 5:24

Election Day reminds us that our voices matter and that every person bears the image of God. For those of us living with disabilities, this day can bring both hope and challenge; hope in the power of participation and challenge in systems that are not always built for accessibility. Yet God calls each of us to be part of the work of justice, each in our own way.

In the act of voting—whether by mail, in person, or through assistance—we affirm that our presence in the public square is sacred. God sees us, values us, and works through us to bring compassion and righteousness into our communities.

Before we cast our ballots or pray for those who will lead, we pause to offer this day to God.

Prayer:
Holy and gracious God,
You are the source of justice and the giver of peace.
On this Election Day, we give You thanks for the privilege and power to vote,

and for every person whose voice and choice shape our common life.

We lift before You those living with disabilities,
for whom access, travel, or understanding may bring added burdens.
Grant strength, dignity, and courage to each one,
and surround them with helpers who embody Your compassion.

Bless all voters with discernment and patience,
and all election workers with fairness and care.
May leaders who are chosen seek wisdom, mercy, and truth,
and may our nation grow in kindness, justice, and welcome for all.

Guide us, O Lord, to use our gifts for the good of our neighbors,
that Your kingdom of love might take root among us
.

In the name of Jesus Christ,
who reigns in justice and peace,

Amen.
