A Prayer For The Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally

Holy God,
You who call your servants in every age,
who spoke to Mary and were answered with courage,
we give You thanks for Your Church—
ancient, wounded, and still alive with Your Spirit.

We lift before You Sarah, Your servant,
called to lead in a time of history and fracture,
to be a shepherd among many voices,
a healer where trust has been broken,
and a witness to Your compassion in a divided world.

Grant her wisdom that listens before it speaks,
strength that does not harden into pride,
and courage rooted not in power,
but in love.

Lord, remember all who have been hurt by Your Church—
those whose pain has been ignored,
whose stories have been silenced,
whose trust has been shattered.
Hold them close,
and let justice, truth, and tenderness rise where harm once lived.

Bind together Your global family—
across nations, cultures, and disagreements—
that we may not seek to win against one another,
but to walk together toward You.

Teach us, like Mary, to say “yes” to Your calling,
even when it is costly,
even when it is new,
even when it asks more than we feel ready to give.

And renew Your Church, O God—
not in image or power,
but in humility, mercy, and truth—
that the world may see not our divisions,
but Your love made visible among us.

Through Jesus Christ,
the Good Shepherd and healer of all,
Amen.
