Hey Jesus, Can We Talk About Self-Care?

Hey Jesus,

Why is it so hard for people to understand the real definition of self-care?

It’s not all bubble baths and beach vacations. (Though, let’s be honest, those sound great.) But for some of us, self-care looks like setting boundaries. Saying “no.” Speaking up when it’s uncomfortable. Telling the truth when someone would really rather not hear it.

And I get it — that kind of self-care doesn’t come with a pretty Instagram filter. It’s messy. It can make people squirm. But it’s also holy.

You modeled that kind of care, didn’t you? You took time away to pray. You flipped tables when injustice took over sacred spaces. You loved fiercely, even when it ruffled feathers. You spoke truth — not because it was popular, but because it was necessary.

So I guess I’m just trying to follow your lead here.

Some days, self-care means rest. Other days, it means standing my ground, even if my voice shakes. And if people don’t understand that? Well… I’ll keep saying what I need to say anyway.

Love,
Me

Prayer:
Jesus, help me honor the needs You placed in my heart — even when others don’t see them. Remind me that caring for myself is not selfish; it’s sacred. Give me courage to speak up, rest when I need it, and love myself the way You already do. Amen.
