Mission & Vision

The mission of The Disabled Episcopalian is to ignite a movement of radical inclusion within the Episcopal Church—one that fully embraces, uplifts, and affirms people with disabilities as equal members of the Body of Christ.

We believe that accessibility is not merely a legal obligation or logistical challenge—it is a sacred calling rooted in the Gospel. Every person, regardless of physical, intellectual, sensory, or mental health challenges, deserves full access to worship, leadership, community life, and spiritual formation.

Our work empowers Episcopal congregations to:

  • Move beyond ADA compliance toward true belonging.
  • Reimagine their liturgies, spaces, and ministries through the lens of disability justice.
  • Listen deeply to the lived experiences of disabled Episcopalians.
  • Celebrate the spiritual gifts disabled people bring to the Church.
  • Create worship environments where all bodies are welcome, and all bodies are sacred.

This is more than a website—it’s a call to action.

Through practical resources, theological reflection, and honest storytelling, The Disabled Episcopalian seeks to transform how we understand access—not as an afterthought, but as an expression of divine hospitality.

Together, we can build a Church where disability is not a barrier to grace—but a witness to it.

Vision

We envision an Episcopal Church where accessibility is not an accommodation—but a cornerstone of Christian life.

Imagine if your church could engage 25% more people.

1 in 4 people has a disability. That means every congregation has the opportunity to welcome and empower individuals who are eager to worship, serve, and belong—but too often remain marginalized.

Churches that involve rather than ignore disabled people are growing—not just in numbers, but in compassion, community, and witness.

At The Disabled Episcopalian, we believe that the full participation of disabled people is not optional—it’s essential. Many Episcopalians affected by disability attend, serve, and contribute to their congregations at a much lower rate. Often, the barrier isn’t willingness. It’s accessibility. It’s acceptance. And it’s time to change that.

We are working toward a future where every Episcopal congregation becomes a place of full belonging—for everyone. Our vision is grounded in G.R.A.C.E.:

Access for All

We commit to removing barriers—architectural, technological, and attitudinal—so that all can worship with dignity.

Create Community

We foster interdependence over independence—building communities where everyone belongs, serves, and is served.

Embody Love

We live out the Gospel by embracing disability as a sacred part of the human experience—not something to fix, but something to honor.

Because disability inclusion isn’t just a value.
It’s GRACE in action. It’s the Episcopal Church.
